Infiniti is still evaluating the engine layout for its halo supercar, though new reports suggest the projects is back and is scheduled to launch in 2017-2018.

According to the Infiniti’s European head, Fintan Knight, the Japanese automaker is still discussing whether the supercar will utilize a front- or mid-engined layout.

Unfortunately the halo model isn’t the main priority for Infiniti, which is working hard to release the rest of its lineup sporting its new nomenclature, which includes the G37 Coupe replacement, the Q60 and a compact model called the Q30.

It is likely that the supercar will be built with feedback from Infiniti’s collaboration with the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team. The automaker has hinted in the past as to what its supercar will look like in terms of styling with its Essence and Emerg-e concepts. There’s also a good chance that Infiniti will choose a hybrid V6 powerplant for its supercar, to mirror a Formula 1 powertrain.
