Ferrari F12 Speciale to Cut Weight, Add Power

Ferrari is working on a lightweight, high-power version of its F12 Berlinetta.

The new Ferrari F12 Speciale is said to be 440 pounds lighter than the standard version of the car, while its 6.2-liter V12 will put out an extra 30 hp, sitting at 760 hp. That will give the new Ferrari a power-to-weight ratio better than the Lamborghini Aventador SV, and put it on par with the Porsche 918.

The sprint from 0 to 60 mph will happen in less than three seconds, while the car’s top speed might remain at 211 mph, or it may be downgraded because of the aggressive aerodynamics being added to the Speciale. The weight loss will come from stripping away anything that’s not essential for going fast, including the interior carpeting and navigation system.

Recently, Ferrari was caught testing an F12 with a camouflaged rear end (seen above), which is believed to be the 2017 F12. In light of this news, it’s also possible that it was a test mule for the new F12 Speciale.

The F12 Speciale is expected to be one of the very last non-turbo, non-hybrid supercars Ferrari ever builds, and its limited production will make it that much more rare.

Next year’s Geneva Motor Show in March will likely play host to the car’s debut.
