Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept Gains Traction at SEMA

Is a V8 muscle car with all-wheel drive, still a muscle car?

That’s the question raised with the Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept. Billed as a year-round muscle car, the Challenger GT uses a 5.7-litre V8 that sends power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The HEMI engine has been upgraded with the Scat Pack 3 Performance Kit that bumps power up by as much as 75 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque.

That means the GT AWD now makes around 450 hp and 454 lb-ft of torque from the smaller HEMI V8. How did they do this? Well the Stage 3 kit adds CNC-ported cylinder heads, hi-flow manifolds, high flow exhaust, hardware upgrades and more. Best of all the Stage 3 kit is available for any Challenger R/T and won’t void your factory warranty.

To make the GT AWD concept standout, it’s been painted in grey with header orange accents. A wide body kit has been grafted on along with black quad Mopar exhaust tips.

A concept Mopar suspension kit lowers the GT closer to the road and handling has been improved with large strut bars front and rear.

Although the Challenger GT AWD Concept is just that, a concept, remember that Dodge has been including AWD with the 5.7-liter in the Charger for years, so it is feasible. If it happens, let’s just hope there is a way to still put it into rear wheel drive when wanting to perform big, smoky burnouts.

I wonder if they can match the AWD system to a 6.4...or, god forbid...the Hellcat. :D
