Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus is making a statement at the Nurburgring.

When the Lamborghini Huracan Performante revealed its Nurburgring lap record, there was a bit of controversy surrounding it. The Italian automaker actually had to provide data to the media to show that its lap time was legitimate. Jim Glickenhaus of the eponymous boutique automaker was just one of the many people who were very skeptical of Lamborghini’s claimed lap time.

Part of Glickenhaus’ statements came around the same time his company claimed its road-going production car would be faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder on the Nurburgring, which at the time was the record holder. Naturally, some believed Glickenhaus was just upset that Lamborghini stole away the record and with a time seemingly out of reach for the SCG 003S road car. Recently, Glickenhaus proposed the idea of a Nurburgring shootout, where competitors would have to drive their cars to the track on street tires and lay down the lap time.

While that may still be a pipe dream for Glickenhaus, proving his car is the fastest around the Nurburgring may not be. The SCG 003C will be competing at this year’s 24 Hours of Nurburgring, and while it isn’t street legal like the 918 Spyder and Huracan Performante, it has turned in a very impressive lap. A video has been shared showing the race car doing a lap and it appears to be about 17 seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder, and about 12 seconds faster than the Huracan Performante.

Now, this is a race car, so it’s not an apples-to-apples comparison, but the SCG 003C is restricted to around 500 horsepower due to race regulations. It’s also required to weigh 2,976 pounds and did its lap in damp, cold track conditions with traffic. The road-going SCG 003S will have over 800 hp from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo engine with a similar weight figure and only slightly less downforce than the race car.

Perhaps the idea of a 6:30 lap time from the SCG 003S isn’t as far-fetched as it seems because this race car and its lap set the scene positively for the upcoming street legal supercar. It will be very interesting to see if Glickenhaus does manage to beat the Lamborghini with the SCG 003S.
