The final design for the Aston Martin DBX SUV has been signed off on.

First shown as a concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the production version of the Aston Martin DBX will have four doors, CEO Andy Palmer has confirmed to Autocar. And now that the design has been signed off, building of pre-production test mules has started and we can expect to see spy photos surfacing in the near future.

The CEO indicated while some things have changed dramatically from concept to production, we should still be able to recognize the finished product as a DBX.

“There are aspects of the car that have changed dramatically – perhaps none more so than the fact that it is now a four-door – and, on a comparison basis, you will be able to pick out many details that have been modified,” said Palmer. “But in terms of the pure lines and the fundamental core principles of the car, you’ll recognize them.”

The brand’s first crossover will ride on a new bonded and riveted aluminum platform, closely related to what’s used on the DB11. It will also be Aston Martin’s first model to offer all-wheel drive, although it’s still clear if it will come standard.

As we reported earlier, the DBX will launch with conventional gasoline engines, but Palmer did confirm a hybrid variant is in development. There won’t however, be a plug-in hybrid model.
