Ford has officially announced the Shelby Mustang GT500 will arrive in 2019 with a 700+ horsepower supercharged V8 under the hood.

Ford says the new GT500 will have twice as much power as the original 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500, which was factory rated at 355 horsepower. That would make the 2019 Shelby GT500 a 710 horsepower car, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up having a bit more power on tap than that.

“Embodying Ford Performance team’s motorsport expertise, this new Mustang is engineered to stand apart on roadways and race tracks, thanks to its new innovative track technologies, performance hardware, plus aggressive and functional track-tuned styling,” a statement released by the automaker reads.

Leaked information indicates the new GT500 will have a 5.2-liter V8 engine with a huge 2.6-liter Roots-style blower bolted to it. It’s also expected to come with a 10-speed automatic transmission and huge carbon ceramic brakes. A top speed of up to 200 mph has been rumored as well.

We should have more information on the new Shelby GT500 shortly. Stay tuned.
