2019 Toyota RAV4 Teases Its Totally New Design
The new 2019 Toyota RAV4 will debut its clean-sheet design at the 2018 New York International Auto Show later this month.
Toyota teased the new-look crossover today, releasing an image showing its silhouette placed against a sunny backdrop. The fifth-generation RAV4 is expected to be heavily influenced by the FT-AC Concept first shown at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Spy photos back this up, showing the crossover with a burlier, more upright stance and the same grille as the FT-AC. The boxier shape should also help to increase passenger and cargo volume.

As for the platform, expect it to ride on Toyota’s New Global Architecture, which is also employed in the Prius, Camry, and C-HR. A range of naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines should be on the table, and this is Toyota, so it’s all but guaranteed a hybrid version will be offered too. It’s reasonable to assume Toyota has also further developed its all-wheel drive system with Dynamic Torque Control in order to keep the RAV4 competitive with rivals from Mazda, Honda, Jeep and others.
