Porsche Warranty Benefits
The Porsche warranty comes with 4 years/50,000 miles of access to the Porsche 24-Hour Roadside Assistance Program, which provides emergency services, including:
- Battery jump-starts
- Towing to the nearest Porsche dealership
- Flat tire assistance
- Lockout services
- Fuel delivery
- Winching to pull your Porsche from sand, mud, ditches, or snow
Another benefit to Porsche warranty coverage is trip interruption reimbursement, which provides up to $750 for meals, lodging, and alternative transportation if your Porsche breaks down over 100 miles away from home.
What’s Not Covered Under the Porsche Warranty
Although the Porsche warranty is comprehensive, no warranty covers every part or repair.. The Porsche warranty will not cover the cost of:
- Damage caused by normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, or neglect
- Recommended scheduled maintenance services
- Damage caused by an accident or collision
- Cosmetic and paint damage
- Tires and wheels
- Brake pads, rotors, and drums
These Porsche warranty exclusions are typical for any warranty.
Certified Pre-Owned Porsche Warranty
Similar to new car coverage, the Porsche warranty for certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles covers materials and labor costs for repairs or replacements of faulty Porsche parts. It lasts for 2 years/unlimited miles from either the end of your new vehicle warranty or the point of vehicle purchase if your CPO Porsche’s factory warranty has already expired.
The Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty covers your vehicle’s engine, fuel and cooling systems, powertrain and transmission, suspension and steering, brake system, heating and air conditioning, electrical systems, body parts, and comfort electronics. It also comes with 2 years/unlimited miles of 24-hour roadside assistance.
While the CPO warranty comes with a $0 deductible, all repairs must be made at a Porsche dealer.
CPO Porsche Warranty Exclusions
Some exclusions to the CPO Porsche warranty include:
- Emission control systems
- Corrosion
- Tires damaged from road hazards or premature wear
- Normal wear and tear
- Damage due to lack of maintenance, abuse, neglect, or misuse
- Cleaning and polishing
- Lubricants and fluid contaminations
- Repairs on vehicles with altered odometers
- Auto glass
- Unauthorized modifications
For full CPO Porsche warranty exclusions, consult your local dealership.
Do You Need an Extended Porsche Warranty?
Porsche warranty coverage is never legally required, but it can come in handy in the event of an unforeseen breakdown. In fact, in a 2018 study by PegaSystems Inc., 60 percent of drivers who owned extended car warranties reported having benefited from their coverage within the past year.
When deciding whether an extended Porsche warranty would be a worthwhile investment for you, our research team recommends checking out common repair costs for Porsche vehicles. Here are some examples of common repairs and their average costs, according to RepairPal:
Commonly Reported Repairs |
Porsche Repair Cost |
---|---|
Head gasket replacement |
$2,586 to $4,149 |
Spark plug replacement |
$350 to $581 |
Alternator replacement |
$2,528 to $2,638 |
Starter replacement |
$1,393 to $2,883 |
Fuel pump replacement |
$1,381 to $2,016 |
If you’d feel comfortable paying for these costs out of pocket, you probably don’t need an extended warranty. However, if having to cover any of these repairs unexpectedly would leave you financially strained, it may be a good idea to look into extended Porsche coverage and finance repair costs over time.
When it comes to purchasing a Porsche extended warranty, you can buy coverage from the manufacturer or from a third-party provider. Be sure to weigh each option before deciding on a long-term Porsche warranty.
Porsche Extended Warranty Overview
Porsche offers two extended warranty plans: Platinum and Powertrain. Both Porsche warranty plans cover your car for 10 years/100,000 miles from the vehicle in-service date, thereby extending your New Vehicle Limited Warranty protection by six years.
The Platinum Porsche warranty is a bumper-to-bumper plan, and the Powertrain Porsche warranty plan simply covers the engine, drive axle, transmission, and seals and gaskets. You can learn more about these plans, including costs and coverage details, in our full Porsche extended warranty review.
Benefits of Third-Party Extended Warranty Plans
Third-Party Extended Porsche Warranty Pros |
Third-Party Extended Porsche Warranty Cons |
---|---|
Plans can come with longer coverage terms. |
Coverage isn’t necessarily tailored to the unique needs of Porsche models. |
You can take your vehicle to a dealership or to a licensed auto shop of your choice for repairs. |
Not all third-party providers cover luxury vehicles. |
Plans are often more affordable and aren’t subject to dealer markups. |
The third-party warranty claims process can be more involved. |
Not all third-party providers cover luxury brands like Porsche, but Endurance, CARCHEX, and CarShield do.
