Rolls-Royce Ghost to Get Coupe, Convertible and Long Wheelbase Versions
The Ghost, which went on sale in early 2010, will soon spawn three new models, a convertible, a coupe and a long wheelbase sedan.
The long wheelbase model will be the first to hit the market, followed by the two-door models. No mechanical changes have been announced so expect to find the same 6.6-liter, V12 that produces 563 hp and 575 ft-lbs of torque in the new cars. The eight-speed automatic transmission will also remain the same.
As for rumors about a hybrid vehicle, Rolls Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös told British magazine Autocar that, “We will evaluate alternative propulsion next year. We want to find out what our customers expect.”
Since Rolls Royce is part of the BMW automotive group, which also has MINI in its portfolio, the low volume Rolls-Royce is not pressured to produce low-emission vehicles, because MINI and BMW combined have plenty of fuel-efficient vehicles.
Müller-Ötvös also says that their models have a longer product cycle because their customers don’t want much change, and that their cars are all about arrival and departure, not about fancy new gadgets.
Expect to see new variations on the Ghost to start appearing in 2011.
