On June 29 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, attendees will have the chance to take in a little more than cars running “the Hill.”

When that date arrives, Olav Glasius, 61, plans to auction his venerable collection of Lotus cars. Among them, a 1954 Mk6 is the oldest, while Glasius says the hardest one to part with will be his prized Mk8.

“I think it’s the most beautiful; the first of the streamlined Lotuses. It’s a masterpiece, with huge fins at the rear like on a Batmobile,” he said. “They made six or seven, and this is the only original one in the world. It took me years to rebuild it.”

Expected to exceed £1.5 million, the auction will offer Lotus fans and prospective buyers a unique window into creator Colin Chapman’s career.
