Despite being unveiled online in early July, the second in McLaren’s growing range of street-legal supercars made its debut behind closed doors at Pebble Beach.

With a convertible hardtop that stows between the car’s two seats and engine compartment, the 12C Spider stands to be within a sliver of matching the performance of its coupe counterpart. That includes sprinting from 0-100 mph in a scant 6.1 seconds (only 0.1 off the coupe) and an identical 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time. Impressive as that is, it’s even more remarkable that the car boasts a 204 mph top speed, which is only 3 mph slower than the fixed-top version.

Finally, the car only gains 88 lbs through its open-air capability thanks in part to the super lightweight chassis shared between both the convertible and hard top.

U.K. pricing was announced starting at £195,500, though the order books at McLaren stores worldwide are open.
