2015 Jeep Renegade Recalled Over Hacking Concerns
Jeep is recalling certain 2015 Renegades equipped with 6.5-inch touchscreens over concerns with hacking.
The recall is designed to protect connected vehicles from remote manipulation according to FCA. The Jeep Cherokee was recently recalled for the same issue, but this recall affects different radio units. About 7,810 Renegades are affected in total, though FCA says that half of them remain on dealer lots and will get a software update before they are sold.
A recent media report uncovered a vulnerability in the Jeep Cherokee’s infotainment system that allowed hackers to gain control of the vehicle’s controls, eventually disabling it. FCA says that independent of the media report, no injuries, complaints, warranty claims or accidents have been caused by this issue.

As a response to this situation, FCA has created a new System Quality Engineering team which is focused on best practices for new software development.
To block hackers, owners will be provided with a USB key which they can use to update their vehicle’s software. The software fix can also be downloaded online, or customers can bring their vehicles into a dealership where the upgrade will be preformed free of charge.
