The new Fiat 124 Spider was revealed just weeks ago at the L.A. Auto Show and the brand is already testing a hotter version.

Abarth, Fiat’s tuning arm, has gotten a hold on the new 124 Spider and plans to dial up its power and performance. Power gains are expected to be a modest 10 horsepower, boosting the car’s 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine up to around 170 hp.

Along with some suspension enhancements, the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth will have a more aggressive look thanks to bigger air intakes, wider side sills, quad exhaust pipes and larger, Abarth-specific wheels.

After the Abarth model arrives, rumor has it that an even more powerful version Esseesse variant will be released, packing between 210 and 220 horsepower.
