Swanky 2017 Volvo S90 Makes Global Debut

The 2017 Volvo S90 takes everything we loved about the fantastic XC90 and puts it into a sedan, and the stunning new car made its global debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.

The S90 has so much more presence than the one that came before it, and this new look will find fans with both the loyal Volvo drivers and catch the attention of people new to the Swedish brand. The sedan looks even more dramatic in person. The Thor’s hammer LED headlights and the new upright grille look elegant on this sedan, and the whole package comes together well, although people have been critical of the S90’s rear end design.

Starting with the powertrain, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine uses both a turbocharger and supercharger to make 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The result is a four-cylinder that feels more like a six. There will also be a hybrid coming that makes 410 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque and will give the sedan some all-electric driving range. Power will be sent via an eight-speed automatic to all four wheels.

The S90 will also be available with Volvo’s full suite of safety technology that includes semi-autonomous driving technology, collision avoidance and other passive safety features as well.

Moving inside, the cabin has the simple and modern Scandinavian design we loved so much in the XC90. The cabin is highlighted by the big tablet-like touchscreen, which gives the dashboard a clean design with minimal buttons.

The Volvo S90 will definitely be a gamechanger for the luxury sedan market, just like the XC90 that was catapulted to being a front-runner in the SUV segment.
