Top 10 Most Interesting Cars Heading to Auction Soon

The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction will take place January 23-31 and there are thousands of cars crossing the auction block.

From collectibles to rare classics, it’s not an easy task to pick out 10 cars that stand out from an impressive crowd. Nonetheless, AutoGuide.com has tackled the job, going lot-by-lot and picking out what catches our eyes. Some are strange while others are rare, but if you’re looking to spend your hard-earned cash on something for your garage, check out our top 10 list below.

Completely contrasting the 72-hp Jeep is this 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster, pumping out a cool 617 hp from a 5.4-liter V8 engine paired with a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger with dual intercoolers. The powerplant is mated to an AMG Speedshift R five-speed transmission with three manual modes and factory options include carbon fiber interior trim, carbon ceramic 15- and 14-inch brake rotors with eight-piston (front) and four-piston (rear) red brake calipers, 19-inch turbine factory wheels and SLR-embossed floor mats. This particular SLR has just 6,957 miles on the odometer.

With a total of just 78 units ever produced, the Saleen S7 might be one of the rarest cars heading to the 2016 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. This particular example is the first of only four naturally aspirated S7s built with the optional Competition Saleen Performance upgrade package, giving it 625 hp from its Ford-sourced 7.0-liter V8 engine. The package includes a new cam, modified ECU, exhaust and intake, originally costing $75,000 over the sticker price. Despite being 12 years old, this S7 has 9,100 miles and has been personally signed by Steve Saleen.

With the new 2017 Ford GT on the horizon, who wouldn’t want to celebrate its launch by getting their hands on a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition? One of 343 units ever produced, this GT is proudly painted in Heritage Blue with Orange LeMans stripes while displaying number 6 in honor of the GT40 car that beat Ferrari to win the 1969 Le Mans 24 Hours race. It is one of just 2,011 GTs produced in 2006 and is powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine with 550 hp. With 5,718 miles on the odometer, the winning bidder can proudly row their own gears thanks to a six-speed manual transmission.

Another rare and limited edition sports car, the Shelby Series 1 Roadster was designed by Carroll Shelby himself from the ground up, sporting an aluminum and carbon fiber chassis and body. It’s basically a race car for street use, with a 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 550 hp through a six-speed transmission. It blasts from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and has a quarter-mile time of 11.3 seconds. With 1,479 miles on the odometer, this one is a must-have to complete the ultimate collector’s garage.

If Cars isn’t your cup of tea, maybe Transformers is. This Peterbilt 379 stunt truck is up for bid, representing Optimus Prime from the Transformers movies. Offered with no reserve, Optimus Prime will be sold as a picture and stunt vehicle “as-is” and “with all faults.” The sale is also subject to execution of a Paramount Waiver and is currently not street legal. But who cares about all that legal mumbo-jumbo – you’ve got Optimus Prime in your driveway!

Now if you want something that’s actually driveable, then you will probably want to drop your hard-earned cash on this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS that represented Bumblebee in Transformers: Age of Extinction. Sporting a Corvette LS3 engine and a six-speed transmission, this resto-mod also features custom suspension, mini tubs, Wilwood brakes, a nine-inch Ford rear end and custom three-piece racing wheels. Even the inside has a touchscreen navigation stereo system. The Camaro is also autographed by its current owner, Michael Bay of “let’s blow everything up” frame.
