Volvo has announced a goal of selling at least one million electrified vehicles by 2025.

“It is a deliberately ambitious target,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive. “It is going to be a challenge, but Volvo wants to be at the forefront of this shift to electrification.”

Volvo says that it will release at least two hybrid versions of every car in its lineup, while a fully electric vehicle will come from the Swedish brand by 2019.

All of Volvo’s vehicles are built on two different scalable platforms, both of which can incorporate hybrid or fully electric car technology. Larger vehicles are built on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, while the brand’s small cars are constructed on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

This announcement is part of a larger movement which Volvo calls ‘omtanke’, a Swedish word that means ‘consideration’ or ‘caring’. Along with the commitment to sell electrified vehicles, Volvo says that it will have climate neutral operations by 2025, 35 percent of its leading positions will be held by woman by 2020 and no deaths or serious injuries will take place in Volvo vehicles by 2020.
