Next Generation Porsche 911 Prototypes Caught Testing
Your favorite rear-engined Porsche model is undergoing some interesting changes, and our spy photographers have spotted some prototypes testing in the snow.
There’s no doubt that this is a next-generation prototype Porsche 911, likely codenamed the 992. The most significant change is how much wider the new vehicle is. Furthermore, many rumors are swirling around suggesting that the next generation 911 will ride on a modular sports car architecture, which can be used on other Porsche vehicles like the next 718 Boxster and Cayman models. Some think it could even underpin the next Audi R8!

Some are even suggesting that the new 911 will utilize a fancy hybrid drivetrain, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with this prototype. Rather we should say these prototypes, as we have shots of two different models sporting two different exhaust exits. Around back you’ll also notice the bigger rear spoiler, and a rear-lighting arrangement that is inspired by the Mission E electric concept car.
There are other bits and pieces that are new here, including the door handles and you can expect to see the 992 Porsche 911 fully revealed some time next year.
