Subaru‘s largest model to date made its debut at the 2017 L.A. Auto Show.
Riding on a lengthened version of the Subaru Global Platform, the 2019 Subaru Ascent features three rows of seating and buyers have a choice of getting either a three-seat bench for the second row, or two captain’s chairs. All versions except the base model will be available with the captain’s chairs.
Powering the 2019 Subaru Ascent is a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired to a CVT and the Japanese automaker’s symmetrical all-wheel drive. The Japanese automaker says the Ascent has a max tow rating of 5,000 pounds, which is more than any Subaru in history.
2017 LA Auto Show Full Coverage
Although official fuel economy figures won’t be announced until a later date, Subaru did claim a full tank will offer over 500 miles of travel. Inside the cabin it’s packed with convenience features, such as eight USB ports, 19 cupholders, a 120-volt outlet, and on-board Wi-Fi capability.
There is, of course, an emphasis on safety with Subaru’s EyeSight driver warning system coming standard on the Ascent.
The 2019 Subaru Ascent is scheduled to go on sale in early summer 2018 and should be priced in the low-$30,000 range.
