Ford has a few new models in development, and they could wear the Maverick and Timberline nameplates.

The American automaker has trademarked both Maverick and Timberline with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and older Ford fans may recognize the Maverick name. Maverick was used by Ford in the 1970s for a compact sedan and coupe model, but it has also appeared on other Ford models in other markets. That makes it a likely candidate for a future model, which will likely be a crossover or SUV since Ford is no longer investing into traditional sedans. A good bet is the mini Bronco Ford has already teased.

The Timberline nameplate meanwhile, gives an impression of something outdoors, so it could be used for an off-road model. Another possibility however, is that Timberline is used for a trim level or package, such as Ranger Timberline or Bronco Timberline.

Both trademarks were issued in mid-April, with the Maverick application filed in December 2016 and the Timberline application in January 2018.
