Porsche 800V Fast Chargers Begin to Pop Up as Taycan EV Arrival Looms

Porsche has begun installing its 800V fast-charger stations as the arrival of the Porsche Taycan EV nears.

The German automaker begun installing the first 800V stations this week, with the first of the chargers going up at the Porsche Center Berlin-Adlershof in Germany. The automaker says the chargers are available for charging all-electric vehicles for free during normal opening hours at the Porsche Center, with employees there able to provide detailed instructions on how to operate them for EV owners.

“Construction of the 800-volt charging infrastructure at the Berlin-Adlershof site was implemented as a pilot project for testing the innovative technology and gathering experience with a view to integrating a fast charging park at other Porsche Centres,” the automaker said in a statement.

The 800V chargers will be installed at other Porsche dealerships and Porsche Technology Centers around the globe. They will be able to charge the Taycan from flat to around 250 miles of range in roughly 20 minutes.

Porsche also showed what the interface of the Taycan’s charging app will look like (above), which alerts the owner of the charging status of the vehicle.

The Taycan, formerly known as the Mission E Concept, will produce around 600 hp in range-topping form and will have an estimated range of 310 miles. Porsche says the four-door EV will be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 3.5s and accelerate from 0-200 km/h in under 12s. The German manufacturer also promises the Taycan will be able to perform multiple hard accelerations back-to-back and won’t experience severe heat soak when on the track compared to other EVs.

It will debut sometime in 2019.
