Ruggedized SUVs are in fashion these days so it’s no surprise to see Volkswagen joining the party.

The three-row VW Atlas was the midsize utility vehicle the automaker needed, but the model’s entry-level 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is apparently the engine it doesn’t want.

As promised, the US is getting another Volkswagen SUV designed specifically for American tastes.

Volkswagen has filed for trademarks on the names “Atlas Allsport” and “Atlas Cross Sport” in the US.

We were shocked to find out the Volkswagen T-Roc isn’t destined for North America, but we now know why: the German brand has something different planned for the U.S. and Canada. 

Volkswagen just unveiled its 2018 Atlas SUV in Santa Monica, California.
