The new Volkswagen flagship sedan is the all-electric ID.7. Slightly larger than other mid-size cars, the new ID-7 will launch with a single powertrains. Making 288 hp and over 400 lb-ft. of torque, the ID.7 will be rear-wheel drive and feature a 77 kWh battery.

Volkswagen “probably” won’t send the I.D. hatchback our way, instead limiting it to European markets, according to a report from Autoblog.

Details about the second vehicle in Volkswagen’s upcoming fleet of battery electric vehicles are slowly taking shape, and it looks like it will be a seven-passenger van based on the company’s historic microbus.

Looking to create a new brand image and put its diesel emissions scandal in the past, Volkswagen is now squarely focused on electrification.

Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess is championing the development of an all-electric car that he hopes will help VW shed some of the negative light cast by the diesel emissions scandal. 

Volkswagen doesn’t want to just be the world’s largest automaker, it is also wants to become the largest electric vehicle and hybrid automaker in the world by 2018.

It appears that Volkswagen will be unveiling a concept electric vehicle at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, joining its Jetta Hybrid that will also be on display. The EV concept will not be based on any existing VW model, but will feature plenty of Beetle-esque styling cues. However, Volkswagen has confirmed that it won’t be a Beetle EV.
