Power182 hp / 260 hp
Torque176 lb-ft / 277 lb-ft
DrivetrainAWD

Subaru’s mid-size sedan may have been ahead of its time. Having offered all-wheel drive for decades, the few competitors it has left have been going the same route lately. But the Legacy remains the only sedan in its class to come standard with all wheel drive. It is a Subaru after all.

Power choices continue to include a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as well as potent 2.4-liter turbocharged one. Regardless of which engine is selected, a CVT is the only choice in transmissions.

Pros

Affordable, standard AWD, potent turbo engine

Cons

CVT dulls the experience, XT isn't exciting, forgettable styling

Bottom Line

A relative performance bargain, the Legacy is quick but uninteresting in top trim—but a lower trim is a smooth, all-weather sedan.

2023 Subaru Legacy Touring XT Review

The 2023 Subaru Legacy Touring XT is like a boutique, start-up brand supercar in two distinct ways.

The first: you’re very unlikely to run into another one during the week. You can’t head into the suburbs without spotting an Outback roughly every block, but its sedan sibling? The Legacy is rarer than a mermaid riding a unicorn handing out hen’s teeth.

The other similarity: nobody will know what it is. The Legacy flies under the radar like few other cars out there. And here in Touring XT trim (simply Legacy GT in Canada), it’s basically a more mature WRX, making this quite a sleeper. But how many people will that recipe appeal to? I spent a week with the car trying to figure that out.
