Chrysler announced some enhancements for its UConnect infotainment system today at the Consumer Electronics Show, including a new app enabler called Uconnect Access Via Mobile, and dealer activated GPS navigation.

An industry first, Chrysler dealers can now activate the navigation systems in vehicles after they are purchased. With certain Uconnect systems equipped, these vehicles are already capable of supporting navigation, but some consumers don’t initially want it. After time, if the customer changes his or her mind, they can request that the dealer activate the navigation system in their vehicle.

“Sometimes customers don’t realize what they want until they need it,” says Marios Zenios, VP of Uconnect systems and services. “That’s fine. We can help. With dealer-activated navigation, we are adopting a ‘no-customer-left-behind’ attitude.”

The other major update coming to Uconnect is the addition of Uconnect Access Via Mobile, which allows Chrysler owners to access internet radio apps like Aha, iHeartRadio, Pandora and Slacker. These services allow users to search for songs online, create playlists, and stream music directly to their stereo through the owners smart phone.

The new Access Via Mobile system also allows for voice texting, and one-step voice-commands for destination entry for the navigation system.

“The Uconnect team at Chrysler Group is committed to delivering connectivity solutions that enable drivers to further enjoy the in-vehicle experience without compromising the task at hand, which is driving,” said Zenios.
