Jaguar bringing a 3 Series competitor to market has been the talk of the town for quite some time now, and today, our spy photogs managed to grab some shots of the baby Jag for the first time.

In these photos, the chassis and components are being tested underneath a chopped up Jaguar XF body, so don’t expect any of the looks of this test mule to carry over to the production car.

Under the hood of this tester is a diesel powerplant, though in the States, a turbocharged four cylinder is expected to be offered at the low end, while a supercharged six cylinder should do duty as the top of the line option.

The new Jag, internally known as X760, is expected to start as a sedan but will eventually offer a shooting brake variant, and will serve as the basis for a small crossover. Eventually, a sports performance R version is also likely, to take on the M3 and C63 AMG.

The Jaguar XS is expected to hit the market sometime in 2015.
