The Mitsubishi G4 Concept, which debuted at the Shanghai Motor Show, has become a production model in the form of the Attrage, a compact sedan that could reach North America in the future.

Mitsubishi has previewed its newest sedan model, which will be launched this July in Thailand. Calling the Attrage its next-generation global sedan, the sedan closely resembles the G4 Concept without its conceptual styling.

Few details on the Attrage were revealed, but Mitsubishi is focusing on the Attrage’s fuel economy which should be comparable to the 2014 Mirage’s 37 mpg in the city, 44 mpg on the highway. The Attrage is powered by the same 1.2-liter, four-cylinder found in the Mirage and is mated to a CVT or a five-speed manual transmission.

What Mitsubishi did reveal about the Attrage is that it features a lightweight Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, making it the lightest in its class thanks to the extensive use of high-tensile steel.

I like the Attrage. Currently, it would be the only three cylinder CVT sedan in America. I thought Ford might have announced similar plans for the Fiesta, but no automatic so far. And the Fiat 500 has terrible MPG with an auto. There are several larger cars with much better MPG. Nissan seems to be doing well with their four cylinder CVT cars. I like them too. Outside of the electrics, I see three cylinder CVT cars jumping in sales. When I trade my Hyundai, that's what I'll buy.
