Recently, Swedish automaker Volvo joined the Australian V8 Supercar series but when Jaguar was approached to do the same, the British automaker declined without much thought.

Two teams approached Jaguar to join the V8 Supercar series but according to Jaguar Land Rover Asia Pacific managing director David Blackhall, “the business decision around that is frankly insane.” The automaker took a look at the economics and demographics surrounding the series, and even spoke briefly about it to Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar Global Brand Director, but came to the conclusion that the cost would be “astronomical.”

Blackhall didn’t have many kind words for AMG and Volvo either, both of which have signed up to compete in the series. He believed that neither automaker will get a good return on investment and finds it discouraging that AMG would want “to get flogged by a V8 Commodore week after week.”
