While it may not come as a surprise, the Jaguar F-Type coupe is likely to get more powerful RS and RS GT variants in the future.

The idea of even more extreme models of the British automaker’s newest coupe was hinted by Ian Callum, the brand’s design director. According to Callum, the F-Type coupe’s “platform is very capable,” and the automaker will be looking to maximize the opportunities it has with it.

The Jaguar F-Type coupe made its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show last week with the R model sporting a 5.0-liter powerplant with 550 hp. The company has a track record of releasing limited edition performance variants. For example, it unveiled the XKR-S GT during the New York Auto Show earlier this year. It uses the same 550-hp 5.0-liter V8 found in the F-Type R Coupe, but with extensive aerodynamic enhancements that add 320 lbs of downforce. It also benefits from a wider front track, increased camber and stiffer bushings.

All of that would help the car shoot around a track in less time, but with a price tag starting at about $100,000, Jaguar will need to gauge demand for its current top-tier sports car first.
