McLaren P1 Claims Sub-Seven Minute 'Ring' Lap – Video

Earlier in September, rumor had it that the McLaren P1 had lapped Nürburgring in 7:04. Apparently that wasn’t fast enough for the British automaker.

McLaren has released a teaser video, explaining that it returned to the Nürburgring Nordschleife with its P1 with one simple goal: to lap it in under seven minutes. Of course it didn’t confirm the official time and whether or not it succeeded, but it’s hard to believe McLaren would do such an act if it hadn’t.

A few days after rumors spread about the P1’s 7:04 lap time, Porsche confirmed that it had set the record with a 6:57 with its Porsche 918 Spyder. That probably didn’t sit too well with McLaren, and it’s likely the British automaker wants to take away that record from the German automaker with its newest supercar.

Hopefully McLaren announces its official time soon, but for now we’re just left with a “clock tease” of a video, which at least lets you listen to how amazing the P1 sounds on the track.
