The McLaren P13, which is due to go on sale in 2015, will be powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 444 hp.

Pricing for the P13 is expected to be under $200,000 and will have its styling directly influenced by the P1 supercar that made its production debut earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. The above sketch is by McLaren’s design chief, Frank Stephenson and reveals how the P13 could look like.

The P13 will use the brand’s carbon fiber MonoCell chassis that’s found on the MP4-12C and was adapted onto the MonoCage in the P1. The powerplant is a detuned version of the one found in the MP4-12C, which sports 616 hp. But the goal of the P13 is to offer “a true high-performance sports car with the same DNA as the 12C and P1,” according to McLaren Automotive European sales chief David Brimson. Prices are expected to be 30- to 40-percent lower than the MP4-12C’s price tag.

At first, the P13 will be offered as a coupe with a Spider variant featuring a retractable hardtop to follow a year later.
