Acura just unveiled its TLX GT race car at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, announcing that it will compete in the top GT category of the Pirelli World Challenge.

The car uses a twin-turbocharged version of the V6 engine powering the new TLX sedan that the brand also just revealed here in Detroit. The engine, which was tuned by HPD, will feed power to all four wheels.

By competing at the highest level in the series, Acura Motorsports partner RealTime Racing will be going head-to-head with an impressive list of opponents including the Audi R8 LMS, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes SLS, Nissan GTR, Porsche 911 and Ferrari 458.

Developed based on the stock TLX, HPD is extensively modifying the car to ready it for race day. It rides on an HPD-developed chassis with loads of aerodynamic enhancements.

The engine has also been heavily re-worked from the naturally aspirated version that will appear in the TLX street car.
