When an all-new Chrysler 200 debuted for 2015, the car’s Dodge counterpart was unceremoniously axed. Now a rumor suggests an exciting new Avenger, or a car to fill its place, could be on its way.

According to Chrysler fan site Allpar, a new D-segment family sedan is planned for the Dodge brand, sharing its underpinnings with an upcoming rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo model. With limited Alfa Romeo sales, a high volume Dodge product is necessary in order to cover the costs of development.

The two cars, while engineered in unison, are likely to take very different paths, and could utilize different suspension layouts – with Alfa models getting a mode advanced and more expensive setup.

While a new lineup of Alfa Romeo models ( possibly including as many as seven vehicles) is on its way, the brand will officially return to North America in just a few weeks time when the 4C sportscar debuts at the New York Auto Show. More information about the future of Alfa Romeo may come to light at that time.

put at least the Pentastar V6 with 300 hp and offer it in a 6 speed manual with a nimble chassis and it may be the trick. That engine is plenty potent so with the right trans combo it should be potent. Dodge has always had good looking cars, just raise it a notch in some of the materials and you may be on track to a great car.
