SRT Viper Production Resumes After Two-Month Suspension

Chrysler has resumed production on the SRT Viper sports car.

The American automaker idled production on the SRT Viper from April 14 to the week of June 23 after sluggish sales resulted in 756 unsold vehicles as of March 1. During the shutdown period, 91 UAW-represented employees were laid off.

Sales of the SRT Viper continue to struggle with 354 units sold in the U.S. through June. In Canada, SRT has just 70 units off dealership lots through June. Here’s a monthly breakdown of the SRT Viper sales:

  • January: 47 (U.S.), 4 (Canada)
  • February: 44 (U.S.), 5 (Canada)
  • March: 67 (U.S.), 10 (Canada)
  • April: 97 (U.S.), 15 (Canada)
  • May: 63 (U.S.), 15 (Canada)
  • June: 36 (U.S.), 21 (Canada)
