Mitsubishi is planning a more powerful Lancer Evolution GSR, but the news is bittersweet.

Mitsubishi Motors USA executive vice president Don Swearingen said during an AMA on Jalopnik that the company doesn’t have any plans for an Evo XI, but that there will be a special send-off version of the current car that will arrive sometime between June and July of next year. The special model will be a GSR five-speed with more power and a revised suspension along with other changes that are still being finalized. Production will be limited to roughly 2,000 units, he said.

Currently the company’s latest model is the plug-in hybrid Outlander that is already on sale globally, but has yet to arrive in North America. Swearingen said during the AMA that Mitsubishi is also hoping to launch a replacement to the Galant, possibly with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
