Chrysler’s nine-speed automatic transmission is getting another software update to try and fix some issues.

Owners of both the 2015 Chrysler 200 and 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee have complained to NHTSA about things like rough shifts, strange lunging and the transmission unexpectedly disengaging. To try and fix the issue, owners will be notified in mid to late February that they can bring their vehicle back to a dealership for a software update. The reflash is “intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future,” a Chrysler spokeswoman told Automotive News.

When the new Cherokee was first launched, it was delayed for three months due to the same types of issues with the transmission. Based on complaints listed on NHTSA’s website, the transmission does seem to be improving, though 120 of the 230 complaints for the 2014 Cherokee are regarding the powertrain.

The reflash, which is available now by owners request, only applies to Cherokees and 200s equipped with the 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine.

Many of Chrysler’s new front-wheel drive products, like the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X, will also use the ZF nine-speed automatic.
