Now that Cadillac has unleashed several new models, the American automaker is diverting its attention to powertrain development.

The American automaker’s chief engineer, Dave Leone, has confirmed that Cadillac will launch new four- and six-cylinder diesel engines. As expected, the diesel engines are being designed with the European market in mind, but there is a possibility that they’ll come to the U.S. as well.

In the same interview with Car and Driver, Leone also acknowledged the benefits of electric turbocharging and said that the technology doesn’t have to be limited to just gasoline engines. For Cadillac to incorporate the technology, Leone admitted, the automaker will have to overcome packaging challenges and a need for a 48-volt electrical system.

The largest engine most car manufacturers should have right now is 6 cylinders imo. Between 3, 4, and 6 cylinders I believe there is a solution for most cars out there especially when paired with electric motors, turbo chargers or diesel.
