Land Rover is looking to add more off-road capability to its SUVs.

The brand’s Special Vehicles Operations (SVO) division is developing a new lineup of vehicles that will wear the SVX badge and will tout increased off-road capability. No specifics were offered on the new models, though SVO boss John Edwards did say that they will be inspired by off-road racers that compete in the Camel Trophy and Dakar Rally.

The Land Rover SVX lineup will join the SVR high-performance line along with SVAutobiography ultra-luxury versions of Land Rover’s vehicles. “This is the third side of the product triangle, and one that we think has got huge potential,” said Edwards.

On timing, Edwards says that we can expect to see the first Land Rover SVX models “relatively soon.”
