Just how much improved is the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Mazda has released a video showing off just how cars can change over the years, pitting the all-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata against the original 1990 model. Aesthetically, one could argue the model hasn’t come a real long way in the past 25 years, with Mazda keeping the traditional roadster bodylines and style intact – and that’s not a bad thing – but there’s significantly more to a car than just how it looks on the outside.

The Japanese automaker gave a pair of drivers one lap to prove themselves at the Circuit De Calafat in Catalonia, Spain. Now, even if you know nothing about sports cars, it’s a given that the newer model will certainly perform better than one that is over two decades older, so Mazda had to give the 1990 model a fair fighting chance with a four-second head start.
