Fiat Chrysler Paying VW Owners to Trade In Their Vehicles in Italy

Fiat Chrysler is looking to take advantage of all the bad press Volkswagen is getting.

Similar to how Volkswagen is offering a $2,000 customer loyalty incentive in the U.S., Fiat Chrysler is offering rebates as much as $1,700 in Italy for Volkswagen owners to trade in their vehicles for a Fiat Chrysler product. The discounts are being offered on top of other incentives as Fiat Chrysler is going the rare route of specifically targeting owners of a particular automaker. Incentives Fiat Chrysler is offering during this month in Italy range from $560 (500 euros) for a Fiat Panda to $1,700 (1,500 euros) for a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The company recently sent a memo to all its dealerships saying that it “fully complies” with all testing rules and its vehicles do not use defeat devices. It is also being reported that Ford is offering a trade-in bonus up to $845 (750 euros) across its model range, targeting current Volkswagen owners in Italy.

Volkswagen has been reeling in the wake of its dieselgate scandal, watching its stock plummet over 40 percent since the announcement was made September 18. Volkswagen sales in Italy dropped 1.4 percent in September while Fiat saw growth of 24 percent.
