FCA Announces Three Separate Recalls for Various Issues

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced three separate recalls for various issues affecting its vehicles.

The first recall affects the 2013-2016 Fiat 500e with an estimated 16,549 cars in the U.S. According to the American automaker, it discovered after a routine check that certain vehicles are equipped with software that may misread operating conditions and shut down propulsion. Service technicians will update the software in the affected vehicles and customers will be advised when they may contact their dealers for the fix. The company is not aware of any related injuries or accidents.

The second recall involves the 2016 Jeep Cherokee and an estimated 82 units are impacted in the U.S. For this recall, FCA will replace the half-shafts in the affected Jeep Cherokee SUVs due to an inadvertent variation in the manufacturing process by one of Jeep’s suppliers. Some of the half-shafts may be subject to breakage as a result, and an investigation was conducted that found the faulty half-shafts were installed on SUVs produced over a 20-day period between September and October 2015. The company is unaware of any related injuries, accidents, customer complaints or warranty claims associated to the recall. Two additional SUVs are subject to recall in Canada as well as another 28 outside the North American region.

The last recall is for an estimated 99 minivans in the U.S. to confirm the torque on fasteners that join their third-row seatback and cushion frames. One of FCA’s suppliers advised that a tool had been inadvertently set to deliver slightly less fastening torque than the specified amount, and that the tool had been used over two eight-hour production shifts. The automaker conducted an investigation and identified which vehicles may be affected.

Like the previous recall, FCA is unaware of any related injuries, accidents, customer complaints or warranty claims. The affected vehicles are certain 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans. An additional four minivans are subject to recall in Canada.
