McLaren will take to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with not one, but two P1 GTRs.

Each will be racing up the famous hill at Goodwood, campaigned by two different teams.

The first comes from McLaren Automotive itself and is finished in a unique livery which is throwback to the colors found on famous F1 racer James Hunt’s helmet. Finished in black with red, yellow and blue stripes, the colors found on Hunt’s helmet were from his school. One of the drivers of this car will be McLaren P1 GTR driver program mentor, Bruno Senna.

The second GTR is being entered by Lazante Ltd. and is a modified version of the car that is street legal. Piloting this car will be McLaren test driver, Kenny Bräck. Lazante has a long history of racing McLarens, including the semi-works F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.

McLaren says that the P1 GTR is the car it never intended to build, but the demand from the first round of customers for an even more focused track-only version of the car was too loud to ignore. For an entry price of £2 million, McLaren cares for and stores the car and transports it to race tracks around the world where the owner can meet it for a track day rendezvous. Along with the car, the purchase also gets the buyer access to the McLaren racing simulator, access to race technicians and track lessons.
