The Mitsubishi Lancer is next on the chopping block.

At a recent Mitsubishi event, the Japanese automaker shared details on its focus on the crossover segment, leaving some to wonder the fate of the company’s sedan offerings. Autoblog spoke to vice president and COO Don Swearingen, who confirmed production of the Mitsubishi Lancer will end this August. The Mirage G4 however will stay in the company’s lineup for the foreseeable future.

That means 2017 will be the final model year for the Lancer sedan, although Swearingen expects there will be leftover stock a few months after production ends. The company believes the sedan market is shrinking and like other automakers, it is focusing on crossovers and SUVs to stay profitable. There are no current plans to replace the Lancer and it’s very possible Mitsubishi never will.

The high-performance Lancer Evolution was axed last year with the final production unit in the U.S. auctioned off for charity, fetching $76,400 on eBay.
