Volvo has announced a new partnership with technology giant Google that will result in new in-car infotainment and connectivity for its cars.

The new Android-based system will offer a wide array of functions and it will launch on Volvo vehicles within two years. Volvo says that the relationship will revolutionize how owners engage and interact with their cars thanks to connected and predictive services.

“We are making an important strategic step with the Google partnership. Google’s platform and services will enhance the user experience by enabling more personalisation possibilities, while Android will offer increased flexibility from a development perspective,” said Henrik Green, Senior Vice President Research & Development at Volvo Car Group.

Making this move will allow Volvo to tap into an already large ecosystem of apps and programs that Android users currently enjoy. One such example is the integration of Google Local Search, allowing Volvo drivers to find local businesses with a quick search. This functionality will be added through an update to existing Volvo models that have Sensus Navigation.

More details on the technology and partnership will be revealed at Google’s annual tech show on May 17.
