The Infiniti QX70 won’t make a return for the 2018 model year.

The Japanese luxury automaker has discontinued the QX70 midsize crossover from its lineup, effective immediately, according to an Automotive News report. Infiniti dealers have been notified that the QX70 will not be offered in the 2018 model year and that the brand is looking to rely on a redesigned QX50 to play a more dominant role in the segment over the next two to three years. Sources outside the company suggest Infiniti wants to focus on the new QX50 because it believes it can become the brand’s top-selling model.

The model will reportedly make a comeback, but its replacement won’t arrive until 2021 or 2022. Based on the Nissan Murano, the model will continue to feature a distinctive rear-sloping back end and continue to be a five-seat crossover.

The Infiniti QX70 was originally known as the FX, but its attractive design no longer fits in with Infiniti’s most recent models. The larger QX80 will receive a new design in the next year or two, with the automaker having already previewed it with the QX80 Monograph Concept. But first, look for the redesigned QX50 to go on sale next year.
