Ferrari is marking its 70th anniversary this year and the celebrations came to a head over the weekend at its headquarters in Maranello, Italy.

Ferrari’s 70th-anniversary party in its hometown consisted of a Ferrari-themed auction hosted by RM Sotheby’s, which saw valuable Ferraris both new and old go under the gavel. There was also a Concours d’Elegance car show with judging hosted on the grass at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track and the Rosso 70 show, which featured a forward by company chairman Sergio Marchionne.

Hundreds of Ferrari owners descended upon Maranello for the weekend-long event, some of which entered their cars in the Concours competition. The Concours judges named two standout vehicles their best-in-show: a 1953 340 MM Spider Vignale and the one-of-one 1986 Testarossa Spider. The 340 MM in question is a car of significant provenance, having won the 1953 Mille Miglia in the hands of Giannino Marzotto and Marco Crosara. The Testarossa is the only drop-top 512 and was constructed to mark Gianni Agnelli’s 20th year as the chairman of Fiat.

The auction, meanwhile, presented the opportunity for Ferrari fans to buy up some rare Prancing Horses. The most valuable car sold was a unique LaFerrari Aperta, which raised $8.3 million euro (nearly $10 million USD) for Save the Children. Fittingly, the auction was kicked off by a flyover from the Italian Airforce’s 4th Wing from Grosseto, which share a deep connection with Ferrari as their fuselages also bear Prancing Horse shield. The shield was first used by Italian flying ace Francesco Baracca before it was adopted by Ferrari.

Subsequent celebrations will be held in the United Kingdom on September 23rd and in Australia on October 10th, with the year-long party ending following the Japanese celebratory event on October 11th.
