The Porsche Mission E electric sedan has been spied turning in laps at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

The German automaker’s first pure-electric car is due to arrive toward the end of 2019. It will put the Tesla Model S right in its crosshairs, with Porsche saying the performance EV will start at around $85,000. The Mission E Concept, which was first shown back in 2015, was all-wheel drive and made 600 horsepower from its electric motors. With 800-volt fast charging, the concept could charge from flat to 80 percent full in around 15 minutes and boasted a theoretical range of around 310 miles.

We know very little about the production Mission E, but we’re expecting performance and range figures similar to the concept. These spy images don’t reveal anything we didn’t already know, but it’s interesting to see the German automaker turning in laps at the world’s most demanding race track in its electric sedan. Batteries are known to drain quickly when put to the task of performance driving, and the Nordschliefe is punishing for vehicle suspension systems. If you want to build a robust EV – the Nurburgring is where you do it.

We’ll have more information on the production version of the Mission E as it becomes available, but for now, check out the prototype in the gallery above.
