AutoGuide.com picked five cars that represent the best of what’s new for the 2018 model year to duke it out for our coveted 2018 Car of the Year Award.

Each vehicle here moves the needle forward when it comes to their brand or their segment and have been extensively evaluated by our team of automotive experts both in real-world driving and on the track.

This year, AutoGuide.com shortlisted the Subaru Impreza, Toyota Camry, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Honda Accord, and Kia Stinger as the most significant new cars that came out this year. We always put a price cap on vehicles eligible for our award to make sure they’re accessible, which explains the absence of such great cars as the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, Porsche Panamera, and Lexus LC500, among others.

It’s important to note that this isn’t a comparison test: Each car here will be evaluated on its own merit and our scoresheet will determine the winner. Points were awarded by our editors across 20 different metrics (including powertrain, market significance, interior quality, etc).

Watch the video above to see which vehicle will be awarded as AutoGuide.com‘s 2018 Car of the Year.
