Honda is reviving the Insight nameplate with a modern take on a four-door hybrid.

Bowing at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in “prototype” form, the new Insight will likely look very similar when it starts heading to dealerships sometime this year. The all-new hybrid is estimated to deliver 50 miles per gallon, although Honda didn’t specify if that’s for city, highway, or combined. The Japanese automaker also said the new Insight will boast segment-leading interior space and room for five adults.

Powering the Insight is a two-motor hybrid drivetrain, consisting of a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine combined with a duet of electric motors and an energy-dense, lithium-ion battery.

Inside the cabin, there’s an eight-inch touchscreen in the center, while the driver gets to enjoy a seven-inch display within the instrument cluster. Optional features heading to the Insight include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as in-vehicle Wi-Fi connectivity. But what is included in every Insight is HondaSensing, the automaker’s suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies, which includes traffic-sign recognition, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.

Pricing information on the new Insight has not yet been released, but it will be built alongside the Honda Civic and CR-V models at the company’s Greensburg, Indiana plant.
