AutoGuide.com can confirm the Bentley Bentayga will be offered with a 542 hp 4.0-liter V8 engine from the 2019 model year onward.

Bentley recently filed a VIN decoder document for the 2019 model year Bentayga SUV with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The document indicates the Bentayga will receive a 3996cc V8 engine making 550 PS (about 542 hp) for 2019, which squares with recent rumors that a V8 Bentayga would be offered from July 2018 onward. The timeline here means the Bentayga V8 will probably debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March before going on sale in the summer.

The 4.0-liter engine’s 542 hp output is the same as the 4.0-liter V8 found in 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. This was to be expected, as we didn’t think it would be producing anywhere near as much as the 650 hp it has on tap in the Lamborghini Urus. The W12 Bentayga will remain the most powerful Bentayga model for 2019, retaining its meaty 600 hp output.

Eventually a plug-in hybrid Bentayga will arrive as well – likely with the same supercharged 2.9-liter V6 engine and electric motor as found in the Cayenne S E-Hybrid. We’re expecting the hybrid powertrain to produce more than the 416 hp output it makes in the Porsche, however. A recent report from Automotive News indicates the vehicle will debut at Geneva as well.

Stay tuned for additional info on the 2019 Bentley Bentayga V8 as it becomes available.
