Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall for around 229,000 Ram trucks as they can be accidentally shifted out of park.

The recall covers 2017-2018 Ram 1500, Ram 2500 and Ram 2500 models, along with the 3500, 4500 and 5500 Ram Chassis Cab trucks. According to FCA, the vehicles can be shifted out of park without the driver pressing their foot on the brake or without a key ignition.

This problem can be traced back to the brake-shift interlock pin, which may become stuck in a fully open position if the brake pedal is pushed for a long time when the truck is running and in park. This increases the risk of a rollaway – a dangerous circumstance that took the life of actor Anton Yelchin in 2016. FCA has said no injuries have been linked to the problem, however.

Dealerships will update the vehicles’ software and replace the necessary parts free of charge. Owners can expect to start receiving letters on March 30th.
